Checking on some of our girls and making hay!

We've lots of rain this year and it shows! Lots of grass in this pasture. We could have more cows in here actually but we have more pasture than we do cows to put in it this year. Next year it will be different.
They are doing good, so far no pink eye showing up.

Miss Alaska, one of our purebred black Simmental cows.

We have four foals this year, three fillies and one stud colt. I just love them, gangly legs and all!
Second cut coming back nicely. In the distance you can see the marshmallow bales. Or silage bales, whatever tickles your fancy ;)
Hay drying, soon to be baled.
Checking out the crop in a very fancy ride! With a hay rack and a team of horses. Thank God for this country life!! We are baling hay as I type, our last field to be exact.

Have a great day!

5 years & 5 months

Last week one day our oldest, our son Tanner turned five whole years old! And on the same day our youngest daughter turned five months old!! So crazy how the time flies. Didn't I just give birth our first child???!!! Anyways, Grandpa took the kids and I on a wagon ride that day, the kids were excited, finally a wagon ride. They were so excited to help Grandpa drive the horses. Nice little treat.

Whitley was on the wagon too, sleeping in her seat.
Tanner excited about his new cowboy boots...he has been wearing them everywhere since, with shorts and all ;)
Five months old!!!!!! Such a happy little girl. She's over 20 pounds, healthy and happy! Smiley too. She pretty sleeps all night every night. 9 pm - 6:30/7 am. The odd night she might wake up to eat once and goes right back to sleep. She spoils us rotten.
She loves her cowie cow. (her brother named the cow lol)

He requested a combine cake. With a bucket tractor and grain cart......this is what Mommy came up with. And just as we're ready to light the candles and sing Happy Birthday, someone pointed out that I had six candles on the cake! He was turning five!! NOT six. Sheesh. I have as lot of mommy brain lately it's scary.
He was very excited about his gifts. More to add to his farming collection and some nice games.

Note: There are now five candles on the cake! LOL.
Spent most of the birthday party on the deck, the mosquitoes got bad around 9-10 pm.

Happy Tuesday!

Blossom

So I have been talking about getting the kids a pony for quite some time now. Every time I would bring it up my Hubby had nothing to say about it. But, I can read between the lines.

He did not want a pony.

He was not going to go look at a pony.

There was not going to be a pony on this farm.

He never actually said that but I am married to him for a reason. I know him. I know him very well. We don't usually have to have a conversation to have a conversation. LOL. I think if your married you get what I mean there...

So a little over a week ago I find a pony. I bring it up in actual physical conversation (haha). Nothing. I bring it up again. Nothing. I lost track of how many times I brought it up. By the end of MY conversation (ha ha), either he was coming with me and the kids to look at this pony or I was leaving him behind. Whether he liked it or not, we were most DEFINITELY getting a pony.

1. I want my kids to have a decent horse - their size - to learn on. And I desperately hope one of my kids falls in love with horses.

2. I never had anything decent in the horse department growing up. Just whatever Dad brought home from the auction mart. Which meant it was not broke. I could pet it, brush it and lead it around. What more could a horse crazy girl want???!! Lol. I will tell you, I rode at least two of those horses that were not broke to ride. I did not have a saddle broke horse till I was 14 years old and I saved up my OWN money to do so. So in saying that, I want my kids to have something that most likely won't kill them. Seriously.

3. The little girl in me never had a pony of her own and now I do! I mean my kids do ;)

Welcome to the family Blossom! Looking forward to the lessons our kids will learn from you. They already have their piggy banks emptied and counted up to buy a saddle!

Ps. I must add, I know pony's generally have a bad name. They dump you off, they bite, they kick and they run home when you don't want them too. My hubby unfortunately experienced some mean ponies back in his day.....but I'm determined to believe that they are not all like that ;)

Quadding, eating, horse-back riding, eating & nature!

So we went on our 2nd annual quad trip to Birch's Lake. It was so much fun. Grandma and Ali brought the truck with lunch and the rest of us (except my Hubby and baby C) quadded. Unfortunately this time of year it is very hard for my Hubby to get time off of work. He had Thursday off to help shingle and that was it :(.
When we got there we ripped into the lunch. Hotdogs on the fire, chips, cookies etc. Ali was so good.
Tanner and his 'Grandpa Gordon' as he calls him, having a special moment by the fire.
 My kids and their Grandpa.
Birch's Lake. We are sooooo blessed to live in this beautiful province. It has endless amounts of beauty. And Mosquitoes. And heat. And ants. And rain. And fly's. And wind. OK all joking aside I really do love this place we live and all it has to offer. He are some of my favorite tidbits:

 Our lunch spot.

Cows came for a drink while we were there.
The Tanman taking it all in. Throughout the day I pointed out the flowers, fields and water to him. I want my kids to appreciate their surroundings as much as I do.
 The out-laws! <3
Me and the kidlets! I look like a brown person I am soooo dirty lol.
Shells in the sand at the shore.
Next we toured down to the big Fill. It is where the train used to run. That opening in the trees is where the track used to be.
It's hard to see in the summer (much easier to distinguish the old track from the new one when there is no leaves on the trees) but those posts you can see out in the middle there is where the train used to be. The new track is off to the left.
 Wild Daisy's. I love them.

The top of that hill is the new track. The unbelievable thing is that they used  horses and mules and carts to haul all the dirt in for both of these tracks. I am not sure of all the dates but I think I will try and do a blog post on it.
 Our ride!
Next up, Digger! He is a bit of a superstar around here, the kids love riding him. My Hubby used to rope on him lots.
My father-in-laws young team, I believe this is Candy.
 And this is Copper.
The kids, anxiously waiting and feeding Digger some oats.

 The boys.
 Copper and Candy together.

 The girls.
All of the Grand-daughters on Digger.

 My kidlets on Digger.
I apologize for such a long post but when you make so many memories and fun in one day how do you pick and choose? I don't, I just include them all!

Cheers!
