A little bit of relaxation...

Getting that big thank-you supper behind me gives a big sigh of relief!  I haven't dug into a book lately so today I started reading 'The Witness' by Nora Roberts. It pulled me in instantly!  I'm only on page 32 but I know already that it's a good one!

I will post about the supper tonight as well as a farm post! Have a great day!

Hearty vegetable soup

Today I made a really delicious pot of vegetable soup. We had steak and baked potatoes in the crockpot last night. I had a little bit leftover and so I decided to make soup! I just threw whatever I had in and it turned out very good.

What you'll need:

1 piece of steak, cooked
6 cups water
1/2-1 cups of celery, diced
1-2 cups carrots, diced
1/2 of a medium sized onion
2 medium sized potatoes, cubed
1-2 cups frozen peas
1-2 cups frozen green beans
1 beef bouillon
Beef broth
Salt (I used 2 tsp, I realize that might be too much for some ppl, adjust accordingly)
1/2 tsp pepper
1 can tomato soup
1/2 cup pot barley

I let steak simmer in water for 15-20 minutes. Add onion, celery, frozen peas/beans and carrots. Let simmer for about 10 minutes. Then add pot barley, tomato soup, salt, pepper and beef bouillon. I had some beef broth on hand in the fridge that I needed to use up so I dumped it in. It's really not necessary if you have the beef bouillon to throw in. I put my potatoes in last as they were cooked through already and just needed to warm up with the soup. Let it all simmer together for about 15 minutes or so and wa - la!!  You have some seriously delicious satisfying soup on your hands...... :)

Keep in mind, you can adjust any of the ingredients however you like to your taste.

Happy Tuesday!

First coffee on the verandah for 2014!!!!!!!!!!

I was sooooooooooooooooo excited to have coffee on the verandah this morning and then we couldn't resist and we had to have another one after lunch. The sunshine was just so wonderful. Feels great after a long winter!!!

Miss Ali just loving the outdoors!!! My hubby went to a sale today and bought a purebred black simmental bull and heifer...........................and since it was a nice little hit on the pocket book I told him he would have to make himself a little bed beside the heifer in the barn and sleep with her to make sure nothing happens to her...lol. So needless to say, there will be no new babies in our family for quite a little while ;) ha ha. And while he was out gallivanting I had to help my father-in-law pull two calves today. Both alive and well!

Today I semi-cleaned my van, washed all our bedding, made a huge 14x14 chocolate cake, made cinnamon buns, hung curtains in all but 1 bedroom and run to town for groceries and etc. Looking forward to going to my Grandma's tonight to have a visit and pick up some things I need for our supper next wknd.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Nice buns, Ashley!

Yesterday I made four batches of bun dough. Two white and two brown. I got 117 buns in total! And I must say, my buns are delicious. My recipe is a simple one, it's called 'two hour buns'.

That's one thing stroked off my list of things to do on my spring break. Plus I got my bathroom spring cleaned from top to bottom. How does such a little room get so dirty??
Happy Tuesday!
